Kazu Umeki was born and raised in metropolitan Tokyo until going off to boarding school in rural Massachusetts. He continued his education in the US and received his BFA and MIA from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
In his atmospheric yet intimate work, Umeki employs several media to contemplate moments of beauty stolen from everyday life and from the natural world.
His recent photographic works as BLECHMEKI (blechmeki.com) are exhibited in a museum and various commercial buildings including AMOCA and Bank of America Building at 555 California Street, San Francisco, California.
He has won a housing design competition and received awards for his explorations in digital media.
He is a recipient of Award of Excellence from RISD in 2007.
Umeki lives and works in San Francisco.
